The Steve McQueen Projects

The catalogue and the book we designed.

In 2006 I had been running Motion for 3 years. Before that I worked for Bonhams Auctioneers designing their car catalogues. At the time Malcolm Barber was running Bonhams USA in San Francisco. He was my old boss from a few years before. He called and said they had a special project, and would I like to come over to San Francisco for a few weeks to work on it. Or course!!

That project was the Steve McQueen sale. McQueen’s last wife, Barbara McQueen was selling some very cool things of his via auction at Bonhams. So, I flew over and set to work producing the catalogue, a copy seen here in our photographs.

Whilst working on this project I was introduced to the author Marshall Terrill. He was working on book with Barbara McQueen and they needed a book designer. I was then doing contract work for the publisher Dalton Watson. I called Glyn Morris and offered him the chance to publish this special book. You will see that DW now produce many Hollywood related books, it started here with my trip to San Francisco.

So long story short, I designed the Steve McQueen sale auction catalogue out in San Francisco in 2006 and then designed Steve McQueen The Last Mile in 2007 with Marshall Terrill and Barbara McQueen. I flew over for the book launch which was at the Peterson Museum. Such a great time and two publications I am still proud of 20 years later.
